UniServ Director

Based in the Southeastern Iowa area
(either the Bettendorf or Ottumwa office)

 

Job Title: UniServ Director
Location: Southeastern Iowa, assigned to either the Bettendorf or Ottumwa office 
Classification: Professional Staff, UniServ Director 

The Iowa State Education Association Council (ISEA) is seeking applicants for the position of full-time UniServ Director

Service Area & Overview: 
The southeastern area is made up of locals (teacher and ESP) in Southeast Iowa. The UniServ Director will work closely with the Statewide Organizer and Year-Round Organizers, other UniServ Directors and members, to advocate for students, the education profession and communities. 

Job Duties: 
Assist ISEA locals in matters of: 

Organizing 

  • Lead membership growth and organizing campaigns. 
  • Support recertification elections and issue campaigns. 
  • Build relationships with local unions, school districts, and community stakeholders.
  • Recruit and retain members. 
  • Support school board candidate interviews and promotions. 
  • Travel regularly to local affiliates to develop leaders and strengthen union structures. 

Negotiations & Member Advocacy 

  • Support collective bargaining efforts. 
  • Train and coach worksite representatives. 
  • Provide advice, representation, and support to members and local leaders. 

Leadership Development 

  • Recruit and develop local and council-level leaders. 
  • Design and deliver trainings. 
  • Build leadership capacity across affiliates. 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree. 
  • Experience with organizing, membership campaigns, collective bargaining, labor management relations, and community organizing. 
  • Strong listening and relationship-building skills. 
  • Knowledge of Iowa public-sector labor laws and labor relations. 
  • Experience with political action and adult training. 
  • Ability to travel extensively, including evenings and weekends. 
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. 

Compensation 

  • Salary range: $77,125 – $109,900, depending on experience. 
  • Benefits include health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, retirement benefits, paid leave, auto allowance, and professional development funding.
