Who We Are:
The Lynn Teachers Union 1037 (AFTMA, AFT, AFL-CIO) is a power-building organization that represents over 2,000 teachers, therapists, and paraprofessionals. Our members serve Lynn Public Schools, a diverse, urban Massachusetts district of over 15,000 students. Our union seeks to support our members and students through advocacy, organizing, and bargaining for the Greater Good. In recent years, LTU has successfully won equitable wages increases, class size/caseload caps, modern parental leave language, and increased extracurricular funding, among many others. Our union has also waged and won several campaigns, including defeat of recent charter school expansion, budget cuts, and the election of several endorsed candidates in municipal elections.

Job Description:
- Full time (40 hours per week)
- In-person at LTU Union hall or on-site within Lynn Public Schools
Reports to: LTU President
Specific Duties:
- Assist in internal organizing of LTU membership, including new member recruitment and retention
- Support local in contract enforcement, interpretation, and representation
- Provide direct service to LTU members
- Assist in legislative activity, community activism, and solidarity work with other labor unions and community groups
- Assist in activities as assigned by the local President
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience using tools of relational organizing including: relational 1-1, small group listening sessions, power mapping, teaching and training leaders, and collective action
- At least two (2) years experience as staff/organizer/rep (external, internal, institutional, and/or community)–highly preferred
- Must possess valid driver’s license and access to car
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite, Graphic Design (Canva/Adobe), virtual meeting programs (zoom)
- Effective writing and communication skills
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and long hours, if needed
- Bilingual English and Spanish, preferred
Salary and Benefits
- $70,000 – $80,000 (starting)
- Mileage, if applicable
