Teamster Organizing Fellowship

Join the Teamsters on the front line of the labor movement as we take on some of the most powerful corporations in America. Get direct experience organizing at-risk workers, receive comprehensive organizing training, and help build one of the most important worker power movements of the 21st century!
The Teamsters are working on a long-term campaign targeting a large corporate employer that has had significant negative impacts on both workers and their surrounding communities. We are seeking new organizers who want to expand their skill set through hands-on worker organizing. Organizing Fellows will learn the skills required to organize workers and build sufficient power to win concrete gains from employers. They will be mentored closely by expert union organizers with a cohort of other fellows. This is a full-time, New York-based position with a minimum commitment of one year. All levels of experience are welcome to apply.
Primary responsibilities:
- Meet and communicate consistently with your staff organizer and fellowship cohort.
- Learn, implement, and teach tried and true organizing methods and tactics for building worker power through the Teamster program.
- Build relationships with, develop, and train worker leaders through encouraging engagement and commitment to workplace committees.
- Plan, organize, and carry out actions to support worker organizing efforts.
- Maintain data tracking systems with regular input of new contacts and member participation into a database.
- Conduct small to large-scale organizing meetings and events to support strategic campaigns.

- Excellent interpersonal, listening, oral, and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well with a team.
- Passion for building relationships and making new friends.
- Understanding of and commitment to a broader working-class perspective.
- Demonstrated commitment to social and economic justice.
- Strong commitment to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Ability to work well under pressure and manage time efficiently.
- Willingness to work an unconventional schedule, including night and weekend hours
- Ability to work on your feet for extended periods of time, and be able to lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
- Flexibility and a willingness to help develop the program as it evolves and we work together to improve!
- Those with language skills in Spanish and/or Haitian Creole are heavily encouraged to apply, but there are no language requirements.
