Part-Time to start with potential for Full-Time. Must be available weekends. Work mainly in the office in Burbank, but work site visits will be required.

WHO WE ARE: IATSE Local B-192 is a labor Union representing the majority of the non-management employees at Universal Studios Hollywood, the Retail Employees at Universal-owned CityWalk venues, the Ushers at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre, and the Tour Guides at the Dolby Theatre. Chartered in 1965, B-192 is an autonomous Local affiliated with the Special Departments of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Motion Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts of the United States, its Territories and Canada (IATSE).

OVERVIEW: IATSE Local B-192 is seeking a part-time Communications Organizer to oversee the local’s Communications as well as leading organizing efforts for the local.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Execute communications plans that support organizing, legislative, political, contract, and mobilization campaigns.
  • Draft a range of written communications, including e-mail blasts, text blasts, social media posts, campaign literature, talking points, newsletter articles, press releases and website content.
  • Proofread and copyedit communications materials for accuracy, grammar, and consistent messaging.
  • Manage the union’s mass email, text messaging, and digital advocacy tools.
  • Generate content for and manage IATSE B192 social media.
  • Produce fliers, infographics, and videos on important union issues and campaigns
  • Help maintain the IATSE B192 website.
  • Provide photography and videography support at events including strikes, rallies, and more.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of events, virtual town halls, and conferences.
  • A commitment to the labor movement 
  • Ability to work both independently and effectively as part of a team under limited direction and balance conflicting demands.
  • Excellent communications skills, confidence in generating written and visual content online and social media consumption.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discern priorities.
  • Ability to work effectively with members and staff from diverse ethnic, social, and economic groups.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends
  • Assist in developing and implementing a strategic internal communications plan including content, production, design, and distribution.
  • Oversee the Local’s internal and external communications program.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive social media and digital organizing strategies to engage B192 members and visit job sites to communicate with workers.
  • Develop relationships with members of the Press

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex information into concise, impactful messaging.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with short deadlines.
  • Demonstrated work on external communications for labor, political, and/or progressive issue-advocacy campaigns.
  • Experience contacting members of the press as well as union members
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize multiple tasks and assignments.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and experience with managing social media accounts.
  • Familiarity with mass email programs such as Action Network
  • Knowledge of video production and editing software preferred.
  • Labor movement communications work strongly preferred
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills with proven ability to create persuasive action-orientated content for diverse audiences including members, media and the general public (Will be requesting writing samples during the interview process)
  • Experience in social media community management, including responding to comments, managing online conversations and building engaged communities
  • Experience creating email communications, developing and executing text message campaigns 
  • Experience using website tools to update website
