Digital Communications Specialist
Rideshare
Based in Chicago, IL
SEIU Local 1 is seeking a Digital Communications Specialist for Rideshare to help drive bold, creative, and strategic communications that advance worker organizing and campaigns. This role will support digital storytelling across platforms, produce compelling visuals, draft organizing-focused email and social media content, and amplify the voices of workers in moments of action, crisis, and victory.
The ideal candidate is a strong writer and visual communicator who understands labor, social justice, or movement work—and thrives in a fast-paced, campaign-driven environment. Experience with traditional press and earned media is a plus.
Key Responsibilities:
Digital & Social Media
- Draft engaging content for social media platforms (including Instagram, X/Twitter, Facebook, and others as needed)
- Rapid response social during rallies, strikes, press conferences, and major actions
- Help maintain a consistent voice, tone, and brand aligned with SEIU Local 1 values
- Monitor engagement and help refine content strategy based on performance
Visual Content & Graphics
- Create compelling graphics, flyers, memes, and short-form visuals for digital organizing and campaigns
- Collaborate with staff and member leaders to translate complex issues into accessible, shareable visuals
- Support rapid-response graphics during breaking news or labor actions
Organizing & Campaign Communications
- Draft organizing emails, action alerts, and digital toolkits for members and allies
- Support digital outreach for contract campaigns, legislative fights, strikes, and solidarity actions
Press & Traditional Communications (Preferred)
- Draft press releases, media advisories, statements, and quotes
- Assist with earned media strategy and rapid-response messaging
- Coordinate with communications staff around press events and media outreach
Collaboration & Support
- Work closely with organizers, political staff, and leadership to align communications with campaign goals
- Support training of staff and members on effective digital and social media use
- Other communications and campaign support duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Required
- Strong writing skills with the ability to adapt tone for different audiences and platforms
- Experience drafting social media content and digital communications in a professional, advocacy, or organizing context
- Proficiency with graphic design tools (Canva)
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines
- Commitment to labor, racial justice, and economic justice values
Preferred
- Experience with labor unions, worker centers, or social justice organizations
- Experience drafting press releases, statements, and media materials
- Bilingual - Spanish/English
- Basic understanding of digital analytics and performance tracking
- Experience supporting rapid response or crisis communications
SALARY & BENEFITS
- Salary is competitive and negotiable based on the Staff Union Contract ranging from $60,00 – $73,000.
- Full benefits package includes employer paid health insurance, employer paid pension plan and paid vacation.
