Business Representative / Department Head
Motion Picture and Television Department

Based in our National / Eastern Region office in New York City, NY

 

Job Description: United Scenic Artists, Local USA 829, IATSE is accepting applications for the position of Business Representative and Head of the Motion Picture and Television Department. 

This position reports to the National Business Agent and is responsible for negotiating, administering and enforcing multiple collective bargaining agreements including the Local USA 829/AMPTP (Majors) Agreement, the IATSE Areas Standards Agreement, IATSE Low Budget Agreement, Network Television Agreements, and various New York Production Local Agreements. They will function as the Head of the Motion Picture Department and will manage all aspects of the department including coordinating a staff of three in the New York office along with other regional Business Reps working outside of the New York City area. The Motion Picture/Television team is also responsible for grievance handling, tracking projects, site visits for contract compliance and safety issues. Also, interface with members, employers, the benefit funds, agents and other industry unions. 

Description of Duties:

• Administer and enforce multiple collective bargaining agreements, including the Local USA 829/AMPTP (Majors) Agreement, the IATSE Areas Standards Agreement, IATSE Low Budget Agreement, Network Television Agreements, and various New York Production Local Agreements
• Grievance handling, tracking projects, and member engagement 
• Track current and upcoming productions under the Union's jurisdiction
• Conduct site visits for contract compliance and safety-related issues
• Collaboration and communication with other departments such as the Safety and Organizing is essential
• Communicate contract procedures to members, employers, designers, and agents
• Interface with the membership and interact with Labor Relations executives of Major Studios as well as other employers 
• Work with colleagues to establish and sustain relationships with other New York Production Locals and industry unions 
• Identify and resolve issues that may delay or prevent contract processing
• Create reports based on internal data, as needed
• Research and information gathering, as needed
• Supervise and mentor the MPTV staff

Skills Requirements:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong negotiation skills and experience in strategic negotiation necessary
• Advanced organizational and multitasking skills, including project management of individual and team efforts
• High degree of computer/digital literacy and mastery of Microsoft Office Suite required; prior experience with databases preferred
• Maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive information
• Working knowledge of motion picture industry and/or labor unions
• Experience working with people from a diverse array of backgrounds and able to work diplomatically and effectively in a team setting
• Strong attention to detail
• Experience managing a team

The successful applicant will have good language skills both verbal and written, professional discretion, and care for confidential information, mastery of the Microsoft Office Suite, well-developed organizational and logistical skills, attention to detail, proven interpersonal intelligence, and the ability to work with a variety of personalities. Experience in the Motion Picture, Television, or prior union/labor work required. Training in labor law and other necessary skills will be provided. The position is based in our National/Eastern Region general office in New York City.

The salary range for this position is $130K – $135K plus excellent benefit package including defined benefit pension and generous 401(k) match.
