The Union has approximately 450 staff in sixteen offices from Boston to Miami. 32BJ SEIU represents over 185,000 property service workers including janitors, security officers, airport workers, and food service employees in eleven states and Washington, DC. 32BJ is an affiliate of SEIU, the Service Employees International Union, which has two million members dedicated to raising industry standards and making life better for all working families and communities.
SUMMARY OF KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership & Planning
- Collaborate with the Dues Director to define departmental goals and strategic plans.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and performance metrics.
- Use data-driven tools to assess and improve departmental performance.
Operational Oversight
- Supervise daily operations of the Dues department.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and financial targets.
- Guide and support Employer Services staff.
People Management
- Lead recruitment, training, and professional development efforts.
- Set SMART goals for staff development.
- Foster a positive and productive work environment.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Maintain strong relationships with employers, internal departments, and staff.
- Communicate union dues policies clearly to stakeholders.
- Collaborate with IT business analysts and key dues staff to enhance systems and functionality.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate’s degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant managerial experience, or a bachelor’s degree (preferred) with a minimum of 3 years of managerial experience.
- Solid understanding of labor relations, unions, and collective bargaining agreements is a plus.
- Collaborative team player with the ability to work independently when needed.
- Proven experience in managing cross-functional teams to improve systems and operational efficiency.
- Strong leadership and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to challenges and process optimization.
- Skilled in managing complex issues and making critical decisions under pressure.
- Outstanding (or Excellent) organizational, leadership, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficient in computer systems and platforms; experience in Vitech or similar union membership systems is advantageous.
- Skilled in task management, prioritization, and effective delegation.
- Exceptional analytical and organizational skills; and attention to detail.
- Strong verbal communication skills and capable of delivering high-quality presentations.
- Experienced in developing, generating and presenting reports in various formats.
- Familiarity with accounting principles, including account reconciliations and receivables oversight.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This is a full-time, office-based position that requires regular travel to worksites and participation in events, marches, and demonstrations. The role may involve working outside of regular business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed to meet the demands of the position.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The salary for this role is $85,000 to $95,000, depending on experience. 32BJ offers a generous benefits package that includes a fully employer-paid medical, dental and vision plan (for full-time employees and their qualified dependents) and retirement benefits, including a defined benefit pension plan and 401K. 32BJ offers paid time off including three weeks’ vacation, eleven holidays, twelve sick days and, after the first year of service, four personal days. The union currently offers a remote work policy of one remote day per week at the discretion of the manager.
