Communications Specialist
Based in Plymouth Meeting, PA

We are currently seeking a Communications Specialist to play a key role in shaping and sharing PASNAP’s message across multiple platforms. This position works closely with staff in the Communications, Politics, and Research (CPR) Department—as well as across other departments—to ensure consistent messaging and support for the organization’s goals and is based out of our Plymouth Meeting office.
Responsibilities include:
- Assist in developing, writing, proofreading, and distributing internal communications, newsletters, and digital outreach to members.
- Collaborate with PASNAP staff to create compelling content for both print and electronic communications.
- Support local union leaders in improving the quality and content of their newsletters.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with print, television, radio, and online journalists to generate favorable media coverage for PASNAP’s campaigns, local chapters, and statewide advocacy.
- Proactively pitch stories and establish media contacts for ongoing issues such as staffing shortfalls, workplace violence, and the voices of frontline caregivers.
- Draft and distribute press releases that accurately represent PASNAP’s positions, values, and work.
- Manage press inquiries and support media engagement tied to contract negotiations, organizing drives, and advocacy efforts.
- Plan, manage, and support press events, including on-site logistics, photography, videography, and follow-up coverage.
- Capture photos and videos at union events to support campaigns and organizational storytelling.
- Assist with the planning and execution of union-wide and local organizational events as needed.
- Coordinate media events and train union members to serve as effective public spokespeople.
- Assist in crisis communications planning and response, ensuring timely and accurate messaging during high-profile or sensitive events.
- Assist in managing PASNAP’s presence on social media platforms by creating, scheduling, and analyzing content that drives engagement, lifts union campaigns, and informs the public and membership.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of three (3) years of relevant communications experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex topics clearly and persuasively.
- Strong track record of developing and managing press relationships.
- Exceptional attention to detail in writing and editing.
- Experience working in advocacy organizations and an ability to frame issues for maximum impact.
- Familiarity with WordPress or willingness to learn.
- Proficiency in Adobe InDesign (or similar design software) is a plus.
- Knowledge of digital tools for email, text messaging, and social media campaigns.
- Experience developing and executing long-term communications strategies.
- Familiarity with healthcare or labor unions is preferred.
- Ability to assess and respond to communication needs in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Effective collaboration and interpersonal skills for working across departments.
- Willingness to travel throughout Pennsylvania.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a car.
- Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Salary: Starting at $91,951.38 (commensurate with relevant experience).
