The AFL-CIO is launching a Campaign Response & Growth Team to advance a working class agenda and push back on Project 2025 and the role of unelected billionaires in our government.

The Senior Research Coordinator position is part of the comprehensive campaign response team at the AFL-CIO. The Senior Research Coordinator will have enough of a diverse range of union and/or community campaigning and organizing experience to be able to, as part of a team, develop and implement comprehensive campaign strategies in coordination with affiliate union partners.

The Senior Research Coordinators will not be involved in supervisory and personnel decisions.

Temporary position not to exceed twelve (12) months.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts and coordinates industry, corporate and investor research, including moving proposals through the approval and implementation process within the AFL-CIO, affiliates, and community partners.
  • Assists in leading AFL-CIO staff to identify and develop multi-union strategic initiatives for growth and power building.
  • Develop and execute campaign strategies grounded in building worker power and strengthening our community partnerships.
  • Assist in developing and implementing training strategy and program to build capacity for strategic research and campaigns throughout the labor movement.
  • Moves AFL-CIO programs with affiliate staff and community partners. \
  • Maintains relationships with AFL-CIO, affiliate union staff, community partners, outside consultants, academic, and issue activists.
  • Effectively communicates AFL-CIO campaign goals to elected leadership of local and national affiliate staff.
  • Plays a central role in campaign planning, including worker, political, and community elements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience and demonstrated success in relevant areas.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in the labor movement with a union or community organization with a minimum of two years of demonstrated strategic campaign experience.
  • Proven ability to lead by example and foster mentoring relationships required.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and strategic planning skills.
  • Ability to manage relationships in complex political and sensitive organizational situations.
  • High level of individual motivation.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive relationships and effectively communicate with AFL-CIO officers, affiliates, directors, managers, employees, and outside contacts.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop comprehensive strategies that are intersectional from the start, grounded in equity.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment in both a lead and support role.
  • Commitment to improving equity for under-represented groups in the labor movement.
  • Ability to work well in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to work independently within the context of a plan.
  • Ability to work long hours or weekends as required.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred.
  • Ability to travel in performance of the duties of the job.

Salary: $106,792.59
