Senior Lead Researcher

Senior Researcher who will be a critical member of the labor movement’s senior campaign team. This is a new position, and this person will act as part of a rapid response oriented research operation. The Senior Researcher will collaborate with lead staff across the organization, lead the work of several part-time researchers and support campaign-wide priorities.
Temporary position not to exceed twelve (12) months.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops and executes a rapid response program to provide timely and critical policy analysis to the AFL-CIO, affiliates, and allies.
- Advise on long-form research products to support field and legislative priorities.
- Provide counsel and support to the research director on assignments, structure, and work product.
- Collaborate with the key AFL-CIO departments, including Advocacy, Political Field and Mobilization, Organizing, Campaign Research, and Communications to understand and design research products.
- Develops and coordinates policy analysis, including implications for industries, corporations, and investors; and moves proposals through the approval and implementation process within the AFL-CIO, and affiliates, and community partners.
- Develop and execute campaign strategies grounded in building worker power, political power, and strengthening our community partnerships.
- Assist in developing and implementing training strategies and programs to build capacity for strategic research, communications, and public policy campaigns throughout the labor movement
- Maintains relationships with AFL-CIO, affiliate union staff, community partners, outside consultants, academic, and issue activists.
- Effectively communicates AFL-CIO campaign goals to elected leadership of local and national affiliate staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience and demonstrated success, including at least two or more cycles of campaign research experience in government, advocacy, labor, or equivalent settings.
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent experience
- Experience in the labor movement or work in support of the labor movement is preferred.
- Research support on at least one statewide or national campaign with a strong preference for Senate campaigns.
- Deep understanding of Congress and legislative debates, with the ability to translate complex legislative language into digestible talking points.
- Ability to maintain relationships in complex political and sensitive organizational situations.
- Proven ability to lead by example and foster mentoring relationships required.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and strategic planning skills.
- Ability to manage relationships in complex political and sensitive organizational situations.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, work well under pressure, and manage multiple priorities and projects effectively.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent listening, interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive relationships and effectively communicate internally and with external contacts.
- Demonstrated ability to develop strategies that are intersectional from the start, grounded in equity.

- Ability to work independently within the context of a plan
- Ability to work long hours or weekends as required.
- Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred.
- Ability to travel in performance of the duties of the job.
Salary: $106,792.59
