About the position
The role will be to provide leadership, direction, and development to staff within our union, while managing specific collective bargaining activities. Under the direction of our union’s Leadership, the Coordinator will help oversee the day-to-day operations of the department, lead collective bargaining efforts, and address the bargaining needs of the Union. This will involve significant collaboration with other departments, including Field, Research, Organizing, and the leadership team, to ensure coordination and alignment of bargaining strategies. The Collective Bargaining Coordinator will also supervise and mentor staff, building internal bargaining capacity, and supporting development of collective bargaining campaign strategy to ensure alignment with the Union's goals and objectives.

Job Responsibilities
- Supervise, develop, and lead teams in areas of collective bargaining.
- Serve as chief negotiator for multiple collective bargaining agreements, including developing and leading negotiations teams.
- Refine internal systems for tracking, documenting, and communicating changes to employment statutes which relate to wages, benefits, and terms and conditions of employment.
- Maintain expertise in the relevant laws and processes related to collective bargaining.
- Work with other SEIU Healthcare Michigan departments in supporting campaigns and strategy through ample and actionable Bargaining efforts.
- Plan and coordinate multiple contract campaigns’ Bargaining needs including supporting ratification, strike and field action and other projects simultaneously in a high-pressure environment requiring rapid adjustment to changing priorities and strategies.
- Initiate and lead projects in coordination with the Director.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
What are we looking for?
Required:
- Strong understanding of healthcare functions, including social service and safety net programs, as well as other local public services.
- Experience in leading staff or contract bargaining campaigns.
- Knowledge of labor law, especially as it relates to collective bargaining, unfair labor practices, mediation, fact-finding, and arbitration.
- Advanced computer skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work independently under limited direction and balance conflicting demands and guide the work of other staff members.
- Experience participating in a leadership team
- Proven ability to work with a diverse group of people, including union members, union staff and leaders, elected officials, and other community and issue stakeholders.
- Ability to communicate effectively in a variety of formats and for different purposes, as required by specific campaigns.
- Commitment to social justice and building power for workers
Preferred:
- 3+ years of related experience in bargaining and negotiations.
- Basic knowledge of workers’ rights.
- Willingness to work long and irregular hours, including some evenings and weekends, and participate in all union-wide activities.
- Willingness to travel and work in different locations for determined periods of time.
- You must possess a valid Michigan driver’s license, auto insurance, and an automobile for business use
Salary: $85,000
