JOB TITLE: Benefits Administrative Assistant
FLSA Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Office Manager, the primary role is to assist with the administration of the various benefits programs. This includes but not limited to overseeing data integrity of electronic eligibility files and associated payment sources, investigates and resolves eligibility issues with appropriate insurance carriers, reconciles monthly premiums.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Administers various employee benefits plans including but not limited to group health, dental, vision and voluntary plans.
- Oversees and maintains eligibility records for data integrity and accuracy; electronic file environment with minimal manual database updates.
- Investigates eligibility discrepancies and/or reports on discrepancy trends; corresponds with employer-contributor, participants, and carriers to resolve issues.
- Receives, reconciles weekly and monthly payments from Payroll/Auditor Controller and COBRA participants; produces month-end premium billings.
- Identifies and prepares notifications for participants that become eligible for COBRA.
- Prepares and sends notifications to plan participants with eligibility changes.
- Conducts various eligibility and/or payment audits.
- Assists with and attends monthly CAPE Benefit Trust Board meetings.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- At least 2-5 years of experience in employee benefits and/or benefits plan administration, with an emphasis in accounting.
- Dependable and well organized with a focus on attention to detail.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office software, including familiarity in a multi-system database environment.
DESIREABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Completion of college courses in the essentials of accounting and/or human resources.
- Proficiency in Microsoft software with an emphasis in Excel.
- An understanding of public employee systems as it relates to benefits and/or human resources.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Constantly operates a computer, occasionally other office equipment.
- Occasionally required to move, raise, reach or retrieve files, binders and boxes up to ten (10) pounds.
- Must have a valid California Driver’s License, proof of car insurance with current required level of coverage, dependable vehicle and be willing to travel occasionally within the County Los Angeles.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
- Starting hourly wage is $28.72 for a 40-hour week.
- Regular business hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; willingness to work overtime with advanced notice.
- Benefit package includes medical, dental, vision, life and 401(k) plan with employer-match; opportunity for telework after 6-month probationary period.
